Another p17 story in the Melbourne Books Award Winning Australian Writing!

Melbourne Books have selected Jennifer Mills’ 2008 page seventeen first placed short story ‘The capital of missing persons’ for inclusion in Award Winning Australian Writing 2009. This is the second year in a row that the wining page seventeen story has been selected and we are understandably excited.

If you’re in Melbourne, you might be interested in getting along to their launch: 2:30pm, Friday August 21 at the Festival Club, Federation Square.

Page Seventeen Issue 7 Submissions Now Open!

Submissions for issue 7 are now open. Again, we have made some exciting changes.

The first is that we now accept short stories up to 5000 words and poems up to 100 lines as general submissions. If you're entering the competition, note that the limits are still 3000 words and 60 lines respectively.

Speaking of the short story and poetry competition, our judges this year are: Nathan Curnow for poetry and Zenda Vecchio for short story.

The editorial committee for general submissions includes myself (Tiggy Johnson), Vicki Thornton, Peter Farrar, Amanda le Bas de Plumetot, Lisa Wardle, Les Zigomanis and Bel Woods.

To compensate for longer word limits, we now accept a maximum of three written pieces per person (in the general subs - there is no limit in the competition), and you'll need to complete the general submissions cover form with your details. You may also submit up to 5 black and white images, or enter the new colour cover image competition. Enter as many as five colour images for the one low admin fee of $5.

Go to the submissions page for details or to the downloads page for all the forms.

As usual, all contributors should expect to hear about their submission by the end of August, by which time a shortlist for the short story and poetry competition will be available on the website, as will the winner of the colour cover image competition.

So, get cracking - you've got until the end of June to get your submission/entry/both in.

Submissions for Issue 6 are now closed

This year's judges are Garth Madsen (poetry section) and Amanda le Bas de Plumetot (short story section).

We are doing things a little differently this year as far as general submissions go. Rather than just having two editors, we have an editorial team comprising myself, Eleanor Maloney, Vicki Thornton, Peter Farrar and Nathan Curnow.

Page Seventeen Issue 5: Exciting changes

We are excited to announce some exciting changes for the upcoming issue.

Firstly, I wish to welcome Eleanor Maloney on board. She has volunteered to assist with selection.

Secondly, as a result of becoming annual, we are planning a whopping 180 page issue, instead of the usual 120 pages.

Thirdly, we have increased the bio length to a maximum of 50 words. I am sure many of you will be very pleased to hear this.
